Benny Golbin, Saxophonist, composer, and arranger, was born in Los Angeles, California in 1980. He played the piano by ear until he was twelve, when his father gave him a saxophone and he began studying jazz and blues.
Benny officially began his professional career at the age of 17 as a recording artist with RCA records. During this time, Benny got to record and perform with the Platinum Record Selling band known as The Calling. Benny’s credits also include performances with some well known performing artists such as Nel Carter and Debbie Reynolds. Benny has also performed with several famous jazz artists such as Bill Perkins, Herman Riley, Jack Sheldon, and Harry Allen, just to name a few. As a professional music transcriber, you can find several of Benny’s solo transcriptions on the DVD’s of Gordon Goodwin’s Grammy Nominated Big Phat Band.
As a performing artist, Benny enjoys to perform many different styles of music including, but not limited to, Jazz, Classical, Rock, R&B, Salsa, Regge-Ska and many other styles that one might suggest. You can find Benny performing in many different venues throughout Southern California.
Benny's music has also taken him outside the country several times. He has played in countries such as Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Denmark, Wales, and China. Benny often plays in Prague with pianist and composer, Emil Viklicky and his trio. He had the opportunity to record two of his own CD's with the Emil Viklicky Trio at Czech Radio Studios: "American in Prague" and "A Summers End". Both of these CDs are currently being played on various radio stations throughout the world. Benny recently took a trip to Thailand, where he participated in the 15th “World Saxophone Congress” and also had the opportunity to meet and perform with Koh Mr. Saxman, one of Thailand’s most renowned saxophonists.
Benny holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Performance from California State University, Northridge and A Master's Degree in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory of Music.
